Is revamping worth it? People fall in love with the romance (perfectly edited scenes from renovation shows).
When is it worth revamping, and is there a time when it might not be?
When you renovate, your time to work on those pieces of furniture or windows can be limited, so plan carefully. Planning will keep you on time and does not keep builders and tradies waiting on you.
If you can finish these tasks ahead of time and save money, that is ideal!
If what you are revamping is something that will take the time or you don’t have the skill to do or the speed, it may be best to leave those tasks to maintain momentum.
There are plenty of revamping areas in my current renovation, a beautifully built home from the 1970s, but some areas will end up going into the skip bin. It adds up to time and money, so as much as I love doing these special projects, it is not worth any delay
If revamping the area of the renovation or item will bring in more value than when you started, consider doing the task.
Fixtures and fittings can hold you up, so don’t get caught up on having a specific type of item, weigh up whether it will cause a delay to your team of builders or tradespeople, and stay as level-headed as you can.
So if you can avoid the delays caused by the romantic idea of how your property should look and how beautiful it has to be, you have a better chance to stay in control of your budget.
You don't need to practice revamping your renovation property; this can set you back and take potential profit away. Make money from the first renovation you do, focus on managing your time, and build your confidence and momentum.
