Gone are the days of shell motifs and fish feature tiles, the new take on beach style isn’t quite so cliché! The current coastal style is a little boho, a little vintage and very relaxed. Think natural fibres, raw wood finishes, mismatched, vintage fabrics and eclectic home wares. Nothing is over styled, providing a relaxed warmth.

Decorating Tips for Coastal Chic:
  • Incorporate natural materials. Wood, stone and shells in their most natural state. Nothing is polished or processed.

  • Mismatched furniture and décor. Think mismatched chairs, cushions, fabrics and home wares. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns, colours and styles to create a relaxed look.

  • Vintage Fabrics. There are so many gorgeous vintage fabrics and they work perfectly for that surf shack/beach house look. Cushions, curtains or bedding are just some of the ways to use vintage fabrics. Also being a tiny bit kitsch works well for an up to date beachy look, as long as its not over the top! Think palm prints in olive greens, faded florals, even a pineapple print on a cushion can work perfectly for coastal style, mix these bold prints with lots of whites to tone down the look a little.

  • Relaxed Styling. Don’t over think it, it’s a relaxed feel and over styling can work against achieving a beautiful beachy look. A simple bowl of weathered shells or a single jar of different rocks is enough. white bed linen with a vintage surf print above the bed or a single palm frond in a vase, in other words keep it simple!
