As stage two of our build approaches I am starting to think of ways to make the most of the second living room. We currently have one big open plan living/ dining / kitchen space, but when we start the next stage of our build in a couple of months, we will gain a second living space, which will be a family room. This new space will consist of a lounge and tv and a built in desk space, the perfect space for all of the family!
When I think of a family room, I think of a versatile and cosy space that the whole family can enjoy, it needs to be functional, fun and not too fancy! With two kids using the space, I need to choose furniture, textiles and decor which will last the distance and be durable enough to withstand family life. This family room will be a great bonus space for the kids to enjoy together, with their friends. or with the whole family and the desk space needs to be fun enough that they will actually want to do their homework in there too!
This lounge room will be mainly for the kids, but it still needs to be functional for the whole family and also look great! It is a much smaller room than our current lounge room, so the furniture and decor chosen needs to accommodate for limited space. Although it will be used as a family room, it will also be the way through to the new master bedroom,so part of the room needs to be kept clear, meaning the room needs to be uncluttered. As it will be the ‘family’ room, I love the idea of having some family photos on display, I love the way Chris Loves Julia have displayed their family photos in the room below!
As always I’m constantly searching for inspiration and love the family rooms below, I cant wait to share the next stage of our build with everyone and show you all the details of the family room as it comes together!
